We are in full swing of our yearly birthday marathon. It’s a sugary celebration every weekend! This year, I’m super reflective and keep thinking about the gift we gave Free Spirited Sweet on her 13th birthday – a photo book.
The photo book was lovingly crafted on Shutterfly and included not just photos, but personal notes from the people who were closest to Free Spirited Sweet. I contacted friends and family months before her birthday and asked them to write an encouraging note to her – something remarkable about her. Some wrote favorite memories, others gave advice, and several gave Bible verses. As each note came in, I also made sure to get a photo of the birthday girl with that specific person. Also included were memories and photos of some of her great-grandparents who had already moved on to Heaven.
Why choose such a gift?
Being a teenager is hard, no matter where you go to school. I wanted her to be able to re-read and reflect on those positive, loving notes whenever she needed. As parents, we are our teens best advocate for navigating these tough years. Be the support system they need but don’t always want. Pray for them. Have fun with them.
The adult years are closer than we think.
